The launch system comprises a crew capsule and a booster rocket, both of which are designed for multiple flights. The booster separated from the capsule approximately 2.5 minutes after liftoff, allowing the capsule to continue its ascent into space. The capsule then executed a controlled descent using onboard thrusters, culminating in a vertical landing on a designated pad close to the launch site.
Named after Alan Shepard-the first American in space in 1961 and the fifth person to walk on the Moon-New Shepard aims to democratize space travel by ferrying civilians and scientific payloads into the suborbital realm.
