“Dangermouse was licking around Daredevil’s eyes, purring intensely, and nuzzling him,” Garland shared. “Many people thought he was just cleaning, but I don’t think so. I regularly check Daredevil’s eyes to ensure there’s no discharge or tears, and I believe Dangermouse sensed something more significant.”

Garland noted that Dangermouse’s actions demonstrate an intuitive understanding of Daredevil’s needs. The two animals have bonded since the day Garland brought Dangermouse home, with the cat seemingly recognizing that Daredevil’s blindness requires gentle, sensory-based interaction. Garland remarked, “Dangermouse seems to comprehend that Daredevil needs touch and reassurance, and he responds accordingly.”

Daredevil was born blind and was nearly euthanized at just eight weeks old due to concerns about his quality of life. Garland adopted him, ensuring he received the love, stability, and support he needed. Not long after, she rescued Dangermouse, whose eye had to be removed at around 12 weeks due to an infection. Their shared experiences with impairment may be a key factor in their strong bond, Garland believes.
“I think their mutual understanding of disability helps them connect,” she explained. “Dangermouse is the first pet we’ve had with a vision impairment, and I could see that he was especially attentive to Daredevil’s needs. He seemed to realize that something required extra care.”

Garland mentioned that Daredevil often becomes overwhelmed or frightened due to his lack of sight, especially in noisy or unfamiliar environments.
