Gerard Neveu to Lead Major Automotive Event at New York’s Javits Center

Next year, from November 19 to 22, Gerard Neveu will oversee the organization of a prominent automotive exhibition at the Javits Center in New York City. With over a quarter-century of experience in motorsport and the automotive industry, Neveu brings a wealth of connections and expertise in orchestrating international events, particularly within the US market. His leadership is expected to elevate the event’s profile, leveraging his extensive background, including a pivotal decade at the helm of the World Endurance Championship (WEC). Under his guidance, the WEC has evolved into a global phenomenon, notably attracting multiple manufacturers through innovations like hybrid technology.

Bridging Regulations and Expanding the Automotive Horizon

Neveu has played a significant role in harmonizing racing regulations between the United States-based International Motor Sports Association (IMSA), owned by NASCAR, and the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO), the organizer of WEC and the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans. His influence has helped foster a more unified racing landscape. Prior to his tenure with WEC, he managed the Paul Ricard Circuit in southern France, further cementing his reputation in motorsport management.

Capitalizing on the US Classic Car Market

As Retromobile Paris celebrates its 50th anniversary next year, the New York event aims to tap into the rapidly growing American classic car scene, which now accounts for over 50% of the global collector vehicle market. Neveu’s initial initiatives include transforming the Javits Center into a sprawling 400,000-square-foot exhibition space across four halls and establishing a strategic partnership with renowned auction house Gooding & Company, in collaboration with Christie’s. This move aims to position the event as a premier destination for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

The Unique Appeal of Retromobile

“Retromobile is a distinctive event,” Neveu explains. “It attracts the world’s top collectors, dealers, and manufacturers simultaneously, creating a vibrant marketplace for vintage and classic automobiles. The event also draws passionate fans eager to relive cherished memories, discover rare vehicles, and connect with industry insiders. It’s a celebration of all things automotive, encompassing motorsport, restoration, and history. Attendees can immerse themselves in a community that shares their enthusiasm for vehicles of every kind.”

Why New York Is the Next Hotspot for Classic Car Enthusiasts

Unlike the West Coast or Miami, New York’s appeal lies in its strategic logistical advantages and its vibrant community of collectors and dealers. “For our inaugural edition, we aim to feature between 200 and 250 exhibitors, with over 80% hailing from the United States,” Neveu states. “We anticipate attracting between 50,000 and 60,000 visitors, making it a significant event for the region.”

Strategic Partnerships and Market Potential

The collaboration with Christie’s and Gooding & Company is a cornerstone of the event’s success, promising a high-profile auction that will draw significant attention. “With the craftsmanship of Gooding and the auction expertise of Christie’s, we have every reason to expect a spectacular showcase of rare and valuable automobiles,” Neveu adds.

Proven Success and Future Ambitions

Last year, Retromobile Paris drew 146,000 visitors, with 19% coming from outside France, and hosted 600 exhibitors, generating over $125 million in auction sales. Neveu emphasizes his commitment to delivering a memorable experience: “My experience managing large-scale automotive events has prepared me to ensure our visitors and participants enjoy a consistent, high-quality experience. The upcoming 50th anniversary of Retromobile presents an ideal opportunity to introduce this concept to New York, blending the event’s core DNA with a fresh American perspective. We are dedicated to creating a dynamic, recurring event that captures the spirit of Paris while embracing the energy of the United States.”
