Over the past couple of weeks, NASCAR fans and followers have been treated to frequent appearances of Corey LaJoie as an analyst on Top Video’s coverage of the NASCAR Cup Series. However, soon they will have the opportunity to see the third-generation driver back behind the wheel once again.
Beginning with this weekend’s race at Michigan International Speedway, LaJoie will return to driving duties in the NASCAR Truck Series, representing Spire Motorsports in nine events throughout the season. This marks a significant return to the series for LaJoie, who previously competed full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series from 2021 through 2024.
In addition to his Truck Series commitments, LaJoie has made three starts in the Cup Series this year, including the season-opening Daytona 500 with Rick Ware Racing. Despite having accumulated 275 starts in the premier NASCAR division, his Truck Series experience is limited, with only five starts across his entire career-one in 2024 and two in 2023 with Spire Motorsports. His best finish in the Truck Series was a tenth-place result at Bristol in 2014, driving for Ricky Benton.
For the upcoming Truck races, LaJoie will pilot the No. 07 Chevrolet, a vehicle that has already achieved victory lane this season with Kyle Larson at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Spire Motorsports Targets a Premier Owner’s Championship
Following the Michigan race, LaJoie is scheduled to compete again at Richmond Raceway in August. He will then participate in the final seven playoff events, aiming to contribute to Spire Motorsports’ quest for the 2025 NASCAR Truck Series owner’s championship.
“I’m excited to get back behind the wheel and aim for some Truck Series wins,” LaJoie expressed in a statement. “I’ve put in a lot of effort in the early part of my career to help build Spire Motorsports, and it’s rewarding to see the progress. The No. 07 team has been quick this year, and they’re in the hunt for a spot in the owner’s playoffs. I look forward to gaining consistency, securing some wins, and hopefully clinching the owner’s title in the Truck Series.”
Spire’s co-owner Jeff Dickerson explained the decision to bring LaJoie into the fold for the championship run: “When we discussed our strategy to secure Spire’s first Truck Series championship and what qualities we needed in a driver, Corey LaJoie was the name that kept coming up without us even needing to say it. I ran into him one morning in the motorhome lot this spring, and I asked him what he thought about returning to race for us. Corey embodies everything we’ve built over the past few years, and he truly deserves this opportunity. We’re eager to see how he performs at Michigan and to start building a strong partnership for the playoffs.”
LaJoie’s return to the Truck Series is seen as a pivotal move for Spire Motorsports’ ambitions, blending experience with fresh momentum as they chase a historic owner’s championship in 2025.
