Essential Highlights
- Rapper LiAngelo Ball, popularly known as GELO, is set to release his debut album titled League Of My Rep on June 27.
- The album features the standout single “Booted Up” and includes collaborations with GloRilla, although it notably omits a remix featuring Lil Wayne.
- This release marks GELO’s official entry into the music industry under the prestigious Def Jam Recordings label, following his initial breakthrough with the hit “Tweaker” and other singles.
During the March edition of Rolling Loud California, GELO assured fans that his debut album was “coming soon.” Now, it appears he is fulfilling that promise with League Of My Rep, scheduled to be available on streaming platforms on June 27.
On May 29, GELO shared a monochrome teaser video announcing the album’s release, along with the news that his latest single, “Booted Up,” would drop the following day. In the clip, he rapped: “Zooted, zooted, this ain’t for reputation, this genuinely how we movin’ / Swag is one of one, I’d now not encourage you total it / N**gas goofy, flame my lingo, but my raps fluent,” over a beat produced by ThomasMBeats, the same producer behind April’s “Law N Stutter.”
Beyond “Booted Up,” the album will include the GloRilla-assisted track “Can You Please” and GELO’s breakout hit “Tweaker.” Unfortunately for some fans, the anticipated Lil Wayne remix of “Tweaker” appears to be absent from the final tracklist. The album’s title seems to pay homage to GELO’s basketball roots and his evolving journey as a solo artist carving out his own space in the music scene.
Another noteworthy aspect is that League Of My Rep will serve as GELO’s official debut project under the Def Jam label. In an interview with Billboard, GELO expressed his enthusiasm: “They offered us the best deal, no doubt. They weren’t just talking-they were ready to work with us. We told them what we wanted, what we needed, and they responded positively. They put together a plan that we could get behind. It’s been a smooth process, and I appreciate that.”
There’s significant anticipation surrounding this release. Previously, GELO had only a handful of singles, including appearances at NBA All-Star Weekend and Rolling Loud, which left many wondering if “Tweaker” was a one-hit wonder or the start of a sustained music career. The success of this debut project will be crucial in establishing his longevity in the industry.
