Welcome to “Good Morning, Illini Nation,” your daily dose of college basketball news from Illini beat writer and AP Top 25 voter Scott Richey. He’ll offer up insights every morning on Brad Underwood’s team and college basketball at large:
Ben Humrichous took advantage of his bonus year of eligibility to return to Illinois for the 2025-26 season. It also gives the Illini forward more opportunities to give back to the Champaign-Urbana (and beyond) community. A regular speaker at Fellowship of Christian Athlete events, Humrichous will serve as one of three camp coaches at the Illinois Basketball Club NextGen Basketball Camp in June.
Humrichous will be joined on the camp staff by former Illinois women’s basketball standouts Genesis Bryant and Adalia McKenzie. Online registration for the camp is required by June 6. The cost is $149. Three coed sessions will be held for third and fourth graders, fifth and sixth graders and seventh and eighth graders. There is a 50-athlete limit for each session.
Humrichous started 26 of 35 games for Illinois in 2024-25. The 6-foot-9 forward, who joined the Illini after spending three seasons at NAIA Huntington University and one at Evansville, averaged 7.6 points and 3.8 rebounds. He shot 34 percent from three-point range (after hitting 41 percent of his threes with the Purple Aces in 2023-24).
