The proposed regulations will require the Department of Licenses and Inspections to expedite the review process for zoning permit applications related to affordable housing projects. Currently, this review takes approximately ten business days under existing rules. The new policy aims to cut this timeframe in half, ensuring permits are processed within five days.
Reducing Construction Permit Review Times
In addition to zoning permits, the regulations will introduce a new standard for construction permit reviews, establishing a maximum review period of ten business days. This change is expected to significantly shorten the overall approval timeline for new projects. Furthermore, the city plans to streamline the zoning review process, which can often extend up to six months, potentially reducing this duration by one or two months. Developers seeking expedited reviews will face fees averaging around $750 per property, with some cases reaching up to $2,250, as outlined in city guidelines.
