Chase Sexton Opts to Pause Racing This Weekend to Prioritize Full Recovery
May 30, 2025, 1:15 AM
It appears that Chase Sexton’s title defense in the 450 Pro Motocross series has hit an early snag. After a crash during the initial race of the season, which prevented him from finishing the first moto and caused him to skip the second, the reigning 2024 champion has announced he will sit out this weekend’s event at Hangtown. While a return is possible later in the season, his absence will likely result in a significant points gap that will be challenging to close.
Details regarding the specific injury that led to Sexton’s decision to withdraw have not been disclosed.
Official statements from Red Bull KTM Factory Racing and Sexton’s social media channels provide further insight into his condition and plans.
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing has confirmed that defending 450MX champion Chase Sexton will sit out Round 2 of the 2025 AMA Pro Motocross Championship as he continues to recover from a crash sustained during the season opener at Pala, California.
Despite a promising start at Fox Raceway, where Sexton posted the second-fastest qualifying time on his KTM 450 SX-F FACTORY EDITION, an early fall during Moto 1 abruptly ended his race and sidelined him for the remainder of the day.
“I’m feeling pretty sore after last weekend’s crash, but thankfully nothing is broken, which is a relief,” Sexton shared. “I’ve decided to sit out this weekend’s race and focus on healing fully. I appreciate all the support from my team, fans, and everyone who reached out. Good luck to my KTM teammates competing this weekend.”
Ian Harrison, Team Manager of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing: “It’s unfortunate that Chase will be missing this weekend’s race at Hangtown. He had an excellent Supercross season in 2025, demonstrating impressive speed and resilience at the season opener. Unfortunately, a hard fall in the first moto forced him to sit out the second. After feeling the effects of that crash, Chase has made the decision, with our full support, to prioritize his health and return only when fully ready. At Red Bull KTM, the safety and well-being of our riders are paramount, and we want Chase to be at 100% before he gets back on the bike.”
